Before I continue, I should mention that this is a post about something very serious. You may not want to read it unless you are prepared for the emotional fallout. You may be wondering what this has to do with you? If you're like me, then maybe you've never given much thought to your (and others') view of the world. Most people go about their days seamlessly unaware that they are viewing everything through lenses colored by personal experience and biases. It's easy to forget that there is another person on the other end of our interactions with them -- someone who has his or her own view of the world and its events. If you've ever taken a survey as part of a study, you may have been asked to describe your view of the world. In many cases, you'll be asked more than once for an assessment of your view of the world. This is one of those assessments. I won't go into too much detail here, but I will mention some specific parts that will help determine how you see yourself. You can skip them if they don't apply to you or you don't think about them. I view myself as intelligent, attractive, creative, independent, strong-willed, and heterosexual. I have three kids and I'm married to my wife. What are your views of yourself? What have you told yourself? Have you ever taken a survey to find out your self-view? Do you think that people around you think about themselves this way? Does it affect how they interact with you? The results are in! What do the numbers say about the world through which you are seeing it? If they are different from what you expected or what others have told you, how does it make you feel? Take a moment to really think about this. According to the numbers, there are 4.66 billion people around the world with views similar to yours. The survey was conducted on February 23rd, 2005 and the results reflect all responses from that date forward. If you're like me, then this is new information and you'll need a little time to process it. Why am I telling you this? How will your knowing affect your behaviors? These are valid questions that deserve careful consideration. If you read very much into this article, then it might be better if you do so in private or with someone that understands what I'm trying to accomplish here. I was trying to find out what happens when someone can't see himself or herself through the same lens that everyone else sees them through. I was hoping to understand why this happens and how it affects people's actions. I also wanted to know if changing these lenses would help improve my own view of the world, but more importantly, I wanted to be able to show the results of someone else's view of the world so they could see what happened. If that's possible, then it would be easier for others around me to understand my behavior and consider whether it might improve their own views on the matter. Let's start with some definitions: A Lens is a personal perspective on an event or topic . eccc085e13
